Please join the Katonah-Bedford
Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps and make a difference in your
life and the lives of others.
KBHVAC is a non-profit, independent,
all volunteer organization consisting of 75 members. We are the
sole provider of all basic emergency medical services in the
Katonah-Bedford Hills area, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In 2006, we responded to over
800 emergency medical 911 calls, a number that increases annually.
That’s why we need you!
Here are some frequently asked
questions:
How Much Time Do I Need?
- We can be very flexible.
The Corps asks that you’re available to respond for six
hours a week. All Corps members are required to attend one business
meeting and one training session each month.
Do I Need Any Special Training
Or Experience?
- No. The Corps will provide
you with all of your required training and education.
What Takes Place On An
Ambulance Call?
- When your pager alerts you
of an emergency medical call, you will then proceed to the ambulance
corps. With your crew on board, the ambulance will travel to
the scene of the emergency and then transport the patient to
one of our local hospitals.
Who Can Join?
- Anyone can join as long as
you live or work in the Katonah-Bedford Hills area. To become
a member of the Corps, you need to be 18 years old and in good
health. We also have a Junior Corps for anyone between the ages
of 16 and 17.
Can I Do This From Work?
- Yes. Our members respond
directly from their workplace or from home. We request that you
receive your employer’s approval and arrive at the Corps
within 5 minutes of your pager alert.
Why Should I Join?
- You’re helping others
when they truly need you. It’s a rewarding feeling when
someone says “thank you for helping me”. You learn
skills that may save the life of a family member, your neighbor,
a friend, or even a stranger.
- You are the heart of our
community and we can’t continue to provide this critical
service without your help. We need volunteers, especially during
the weekdays, who can be on call between the hours of 6am and
6pm.
